Changes made to the story

I have made a small change to my original plans, I have decided that it would be best to cut the story-line out of the couple who are arguing with each other about the relationship. The reason being is before I decided that the girl is the one who is acting out what the lyrics are saying but I noticed that the lyrics don't speak through a girls point of view so that wouldn't make sense. It was also getting extremely difficult to have the story make sense when there is no dialogue between the characters so the audience wouldn't understand why and what they were arguing about. I also think this will be better because Jocelin (the singer) will seem more alone then if we had this story line going through it because he has no one to relate too so the audience really feel sorry for him.

WWW & EBI

WWW-
I think the shots were really good and the editing fit the genre of the song. So overall I feel it was a success for the genre. The overlapping shots of Jocelin worked really well. The eye shot looked nice because it was abstract and stood out which worked really well. The shot where Jocelin is in a fuzzy TV edit looks interesting because it is different edit style. I think the location of the stage worked well, specially the cage bit because the cage bars were completely out of focus so the audience were focusing on Jocelin. I think the shots filmed in Jocelin's studio worked really well with the rap bits because it fits with the rap genre being in a studio.

EBI-
I think more shots of a woman presence would have added a better fitting narrative to the video and the song.I also think I could have had a variety of more shots. If I had more time I would of  filmed more shots for example of a woman whose face would not be seen, only her hair or other facial features to create an enigma. I would like to have one more performance of Jocelin possibly performing the song down a street because its urban and that fits the genre. I would have liked to re-edit a bit where the lip synching seems out of synch. I don't think all of it should have been in black & white, I thought it looked a bit pretentious and it lost its appeal after the rough draft.
I was added to a survey to see who had the best music video in the year. I didn't win
Location update;
The stage is being used for a play which takes place on nights and they have left the staging so I have decided to use the staging to make the area look more interesting.
here is a shot of the staging with Jocelin standing in it, as you can see it looks like city lights, the reason i choose to do this is because its much more interesting then a plain background and makes him seem like a small artist with big issues in a big industry of music.

We also had permission to use Jocelin's studio to perform which will show that he makes his own music and doesn't get any professional help which will make him seem more impressive that he creates all his own music.

Different file formats using LOCK logo

This file is PNG is a great file to use on recent web browsers
which would be perfect for the header of the website
and also it has a high quality loss compression system

This file is BMP supports a wide range of colours
this would be perfect for a billboard
and it also works for all types of window programs.

This image is saved with GIF, it works well with
the internet very well and also you can
use this moving animations.
This may be used on the website
for the contexts page

Different file formats using MIXX logo

This file is a JPEG, a good use for this format is that it is very versatile
and is a good quality image,
this could be used for t-shirts

This file is a TIFF file a good use for this is that when making an image
if you want to save the transparency, you can do this by using TIFF,
this would be good for the letter head

This image is a Vector file which is good because instead of using pixels
it uses shapes to make the image more sharp and clear. This would be good for billboards

Fear in Adverts

This is the trailer for Bioshock, the technique used in this advertisement is fear because they put you in the eyes of the main protagonist as he fights a giant with a saw attached to his hands. This induces fears because it feels like you are fighting the giant so it has more of an impact. The reason they decided to use fear is because it is selling a video game and an audience would play a video game for the experience so the experience you would experience is fear in the game.

Chicago Pizza

The content is simple because it is selling a pizza. The form is parodic because it is taking the mic out of film trailers. It has a range of camera angles. For sound it has narration. it has lots of computer graphics because it is mimic of film trailers. it has some special effects from the explosions in the piece.

Lucozade advert

The content is complex because here is a lot to take in because its fast paced. The form is dramatic. there is a variety camera angles because it fast paced editing, there is also a lot of sound editing with the scream at the end its edited with an echo. it has some graphics at the end and also flashing text saying "Faster" I dont think there are much special effects.

Cadbury Advert

The content is complex because you don't know what they are selling in till the end. The form is surreal because that is quite strange way to move your eyebrows. the camera angles are mainly close-up so you can see the eyebrows moving closer. The sound is a very important part of the piece because the eyebrows moved to the beat to the music. they use computer graphics at the end when they show cadburys brand logo. There is one point were the eyes look like they have been edited by special effects.

Old Spice

The content is simple because he is selling Old Spice. The form is anti-realist narrative because props and the set are changing. they use camera angles very effectively because when the set changes it looks seamless, sound is just vocal. it does use computer graphics because at the end the there is text. There are special effect for the bit when the old spice bottle appears out of his hand.

Revisions, decisions and results on editing

Decisions: I decided to edit the performance footage I had to see what i could come up with. I decided to shoot a shot of a girls eye to appear in the video when he mentions her brown eye but the girl I filmed had green eyes so I had to use colour correct to make them brown, this also made it pop out more and look more majestic.

Revisions: I decided that a performance on its own wasn't exciting for a music video so I decided to get a variety of shots instead of just three different angles of the performance. Also I got feedback from some people and they said I needed a woman presence to make the love song make more sense.

Results: I filmed some shots of Jocelin making a song on his computer to add some more shots to editing. I edited a brown eye overlapping a part of Jocelin's performance so this would create more female presence.

Revisions, decisions and results on filming

Decisions: I had decided to film shots of Jocelin performing his song and I would also film clips of a couple having difficulties with their relationship which would link visually to the lyrics.
The stage was already being used for a school play so I got to use the staging which was a happy accident. The play was hairspray but they used a city background which I thought would imply that Jocelin is a simply city boy with a big heart for music.

Revisions: Half way through shooting I decided that the couple narrative wasn't necessary and it would make it harder to represent my artist if there was different people in the video, I did originally want the background to be plain so Jocelin would stand out but they had a play going on so their was different staging.

Results: I got all the shots and used them in the video, the result of the stage change is that the video looked more visually interesting rather than a plain background.

My feedback from one of the aHem executive

Me on set directing

Me telling Joce how i planned the shot to look like

Me using my planning documents

Me using planning documents whilst editing.

This is me, editing the Lay Down music video using my storyboard to make sure which clip comes next and the  paper edit to edit the music video with.

Here is me on set using the storyboard to see how  I could make the shot match to what I had drawn on the storyboard.
This is where most of the music video takes place and it is exactly how I pictured it would be.

Here is a picture of me telling Jocelin how I imagined this shot to take.
This is the shot when in the music video it is Jocelin singing into a mic.
(The picture below is the final shot compared to the original storyboard pictures)
I tried to match the angle so it was exactly looking at him on the side but it is not as close up as in the original storyboard, the reason i did this is because I wanted to get a whole shot of him performing the whole song, if he was really close, he could of moved out of place, with more space in the shot he could do some hand gestures and you can see more of what he is doing to make the shot more visual.

Lay Down Rough Cut

Decisions- I have decided not to use some footage of the basic and simplistic love story and change it for something a bit different so what i have come up with is that the artist will be in a public area trying to hand out CDs but no-one wants to know but then one girl takes an interest and it seems like they fall in love.
